Bloom from Within: Health and Wellness

Over the last year I have truly been focused on working on myself. I have made valuable life changes that have really influenced my outlook on life. It’s never a bad thing to stop and re-adjust. If the only thing we can be sure of in this life is living a fulfilled life. Then what is a fulfilled life? To me it means being happy. Yes, we have to take the bad with the good but that doesnt mean life always has to get you down. It won’t always be good, but, I can damn well try make sure it is the best it can be, even when its not.

Here are my tips and tricks for living a fulfilled life:

  • Meditation

I started meditation a year ago and it has been so much fun hanging out with my soul. We are so busy each day living our lives that we forget to stop and listen. Remember to stop and listen to our souls and listen to the universe. Take 10 minutes each morning to just listen – you never know what may whisper back!

  • Pilates

I was never a “sporty” person. Infact I detested the thought of working out all. But as we get older we have to start working out and looking after our bodies. I debated between yoga and pilates, both are great but I started pilates and now a year later, I hate to miss a class. The long term health benefits of pilates are phenomenal and for the first time in a long time I am 100% happy with my body.

  • Quit Smoking

A few days back I hit my 1 year mark of not smoking. I smoked for over 10 years, I loved it. Smoking in the car. Smoking with a cup of coffee. Smoking for work breaks. Smoking with a glass of wine. Aaaaaaaah bliss. Or so I thought. After 10 years I eventually started detesting my nicotine fix and decided that enough was enough. This has to be the biggest game changer. My body feels lighter – literally. Its hard to explain but you can physically feel the difference even after 3 weeks of not smoking. Just do it. Cold turkey. It WILL change your life!

  • Holistic living

Living a life that is right for you is so important – finding balance and consuming things that are good for you. This ranges from the food you fuel your body with as well as the products we use on our skin. If We are what we eat! Don’t skip breakfast, eat your greens and stay away from processed food. Shop at the farmer’s market and drink those smoothies. I have also changed the products I use on my skin. The skin absorbs 80% of what we put on it. With all these unknown chemicals in our lotions and potions, I now only shop at Body Shop and have started making my own soap – 100% organic!

  • Plants

Love nature. My room is always filled with plants. Plants make me happy. So does the sun. Not to mention the feeling of fresh air in your hair and lungs. Go outside! Also, get yourself a peace lily – a great indoor plant that is known for its cleaning air properties. They become your pets, you love your plants almost as much!
